Lessons in Fashion:
a sporadic series where I share little tips with you that help make my wardrobe stretch.
So, my "lesson" for today is add something. Often times, I'll layout my clothes on the floor and they look just, "meh." I head back to my room and find one little piece to add, and the outfit is vastly improved. I have three quick examples for ya of things I wore this week.
{ONE}
I knew I wanted to wear my flannel and my trusty Toms booties, but when I layed it out, it was kind of blah.
So, I dug around and found my solid black infinity scarf. I think it adds just a touch of cozy, don't you?
{TWO}
I had this vision of using this Rocksbox necklace as a sparkle item on "sparkle day" at school. I also wanted to wear my new-to-me purple Gap skinnies from Schoola (affiliate link). Purple and navy is a fun combo, but when I layed it out, it felt like it was missing something.
I grabbed my gray, Old Navy pullover to add something, and I love the look. It added some warmth, some texture, and a little subtraction of being too matchy-matchy with the navy shoes and button up.
{THREE}
This outfit could have been pretty blah. Black, white, gray. Nothing "wrong" with it. Just kind of boring.
I added a little pattern mix with a cozy blanket scarf and the outfit is instantly more interesting!
And last, I wanted to leave you with just one more outfit though it doesn't have an add something example.. If you're wanting festive yet subtle, I think this outfit really works.
It was red and green day at school. I could have gone all out, and there's nothing wrong with that at all, but I went for my green skinnies, some neutral chambray, and a classic plaid blanket scarf (which I've chopped in half). If you need a festive piece, I highly suggest a red/green plaid blanket scarf. It's just classic! And I've worn my green skinnies more times than I can count, so those are always a win in my book, too, if you're looking to add a little color to your wardrobe!
